Q: Why should I register with Teenwork.co.nz?

Teenwork.co.nz has to provide employers with basic information about jobseekers. We also want to keep it quick and easy for you, so you only have to fill out one resume, which you can submit over and over again. The resume that you complete is kept confidential, and seen only by the employers that you submit it to.

Q: What type of jobs will I find on Teenwork.co.nz?

Teenwork.co.nz is open to all kinds of jobs. Part time jobs, summer and seasonal jobs, and internships. The majority of the jobs available are in retail jobs, restaurant jobs, customer service jobs, rural jobs volunteer jobs. The flexible schedule that usually accompanies these types of jobs makes Teenwork.co.nz ideal for anyone seeking flexible part time jobs, hourly jobs or seasonal jobs and especially perfect for high school students who need a job to fit their class schedules. Never rule out volunteer work despite it not paying. It looks great on your CV and gives you an insight into how another type of organization operates.

Q: How does Teenwork.co.nz work?

Teenwork.co.nz allows you, the jobseeker, to control the job search. All you have to do is enter your location to search for a job. To see a certain job, just click on the listing you’re interested in. To apply you must first register. For new jobseekers, you must fill out your name, and some other basic information such as age. You will also be asked for a parent or guardian contact e-mail address and phone number. Once registered, if you want to apply for the job, just hit “Apply Now” It’s that easy!

Q: Why do I have to enter my Email Address and one for a parent or guardian?

Your email address is the key way employers and teenwork will contact you if there are any issues such as password resets. Additionally, you can have Teenwork.co.nz notify you at your email address when positions are available in your area, so entering a valid email address during the sign-up process is beneficial to you!

When you are looking at your first job it’s often easy to overlook time for school-work, meals and transportation. Teenwork.co.nz suggests you engage your parent or guardian in your plans. No doubt your family will be supportive of your ambition to find your own work or gain work experience, but it’s important they not only know where you are at all times, but by engage them in the process. They may be able to assist with transport and family schedules as these may be impacted by the work you pursue. The parent or guardian contact is a security measure and to encourage you to engage them in your plans and let them assist you where possible.

Also, your email address appears on every application and resume you submit to employers. Make sure that the email address you use would not be offensive to anyone who you might want to hire you!

Q: How long does it typically take to hear from an employer?

Most jobseekers will hear back from prospective employers within 1 to 3 days, however some employers could take a lot longer. Every employer is different.

Q: Will my information ever be deactivated?

Your Teenwork.co.nz registration is active for 3 months from time of registration. Your data will be retained should you wish to re-activate again although a small fee will apply to access your profile. If your profile is not active for a year or more it may be deleted. This helps keep all the information on our site current and saves storage space on our servers.

Q: What is a cookie?

Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser, and passed between your browser and the Teenwork.co.nz web-server. They’re used to hold your login and password information for your current login session so that you, and only you, have access to your personal profile information.

Q: What if I forget my password?

You can simply click on the “Forgot my Password?” link in the Login area. This will arrange for an e-mail to be sent to you outlining how you can change your password.

Q: What If I have a problem with my employer?

If any employment issues arise, those should be raised with the Employer as soon as possible so that they can be resolved. If the matter is not resolved either party can seek assistance from the Department of Labour’s mediation service. If the issues are not resolved at mediation, they may be referred to the Employment Relations Authority.

If the issue is a personal grievance, the Employee must present that grievance within 90 days of the event giving rise to the grievance, or after further time if allowed by the Employer or where the Employment Relations Authority grants an extension of time.

If the employee’s employment agreement contains a trial period clause, they may not raise a personal grievance on the grounds of unjustified dismissal. The employee may raise a personal grievance on other grounds as specified in sections 103(1)b-g of the Employment Relations Act, and in the trial period clause of this agreement.
